Dubai (in Arabic: دبيّ) is one of the seven emirates and the most populous city of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It is located along the southern coast of the Persian Gulf on the Arabian Peninsula. The Dubai Municipality is sometimes called Dubai city to distinguish it from the emirate.
Historically, Dubai’s economy was built on the back of the oil and gas industry but the government’s decision to diversify into service and tourism oriented sectors has turned Dubai into one of the fastest growing cities in the world.
