Dubai At A Glance
Dubai (in Arabic: دبيّ) is one of the seven emirates and the most populous city of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It is located along the southern coast of the Persian Gulf on the Arabian Peninsula. The Dubai Municipality is sometimes called Dubai city to distinguish it from the emirate.
Historically, Dubai’s economy was built on the back of the oil and gas industry but the government’s decision to diversify into service and tourism oriented sectors has turned Dubai into one of the fastest growing cities in the world. The aspirations of the ruling Sheikhs are reflected in the ultra modern architecture of the city. Mega projects such as the Palm Islands and the Burj Dubai complex have hit the front pages of international newspapers time and again. Human ingenuity is constantly being pushed to the limits with projects of immense scale and vision.
Located strategically between East and West, Dubai has quickly become a leading regional commercial centre. With a cutting edge infrastructure and a business friendly tax-free environment, Dubai is an ideal base of operations for multinational companies targeting markets in Europe, Africa and Asia.
Flourishing hubs for technology, media, finance and healthcare have emerged in industry-specific free zone throughout the city, creating a most attractive locale for any business.
Accessible through the state-of-the-art Dubai International Airport with capacity for over 60 million passengers per year flying between more than 260 destinations and the largest man-made harbour in the world at Jebel Ali port, Dubai is a thriving transport hub for both passengers and cargo and is a major tourist destination.
The city offers a superior standing of living with some of the world’s most luxurious hotels and residences as well as premium office accommodation in iconic towers of commerce. Many visitors are drawn by Dubai’s reputation as a shopping paradise and the city is abundant with top class sporting and leisure facilities accompanied by a vast range of culinary delights and entertainment.
